ياO سيديmy lord قلْtell ليَto me ماwhat طائفةٌa group
يا سيدي قلْ ليَ ما طائفةٌ
يثنيpraises عليهاupon it غائبٌone absent وشاهدand one present
يثني عليها غائبٌ وشاهد
My lord, tell me: what group is it
O my master, tell me what sect
that the absent and the present alike praise?
Is praised by absent and witness alike.
للهto God (an exclamation) ماhow أيمنهاauspicious it is فيin غربةbeing away from home
لله ما أيمنها في غربة
ترجىis hoped for وماand how أبركهاblessed it is ياO قاصدseeker
ترجى وما أبركها يا قاصد
God be praised, how auspicious it is far from home,
By God, none is more blessed in exile
where it is hoped for—and how blessed it is, O seeker!
To be hoped for, or more blessed in pilgrimage.
