سيِّدي قد كلَّفتني زوجتي

سيِّدي قد كلَّفتني زوجتي

حلقاً فانظر إلى حالي الأشق

حلقاً فانظر إلى حالي الأشق

My lord, my wife has tasked me

My master, my wife has burdened me

with getting earrings—so look at my harder plight.

With a necklace, so look at my miserable state

كنت في الشعر أكدّي برهة

كنت في الشعر أكدّي برهة

وأنا اليوم أكدّي في الحلق

وأنا اليوم أكدّي في الحلق

For a while I begged through poetry,

I used to struggle in poetry for a while

and today I beg for earrings.

And today I struggle in a necklace
