مولايَ إنَّ الحالَ قد وصلتْ إلى

My lord, my plight has indeed come down to

My Master, truly my state has reached

two lines from two verses that have expressed it:

لم يبقَ عندِي ما يباع بدرهمٍ

لم يبقَ عندِي ما يباع بدرهمٍ

إلاَّ بقيَّة ماء وجهٍ صُنَّها

إلاَّ بقيَّة ماء وجهٍ صُنَّها

Nothing remains with me that can be sold for a dirham,

I have nothing left that can be sold for a single coin

except a remnant of my face’s water—my dignity; preserve it.

Except the remains of water on a guarded face
