سيدي إن يعق حجاب لقانا
ماno لطيقانناfor our windows القريبةthe nearby عاقَهْhindrance
ما لطيقاننا القريبة عاقَهْ
My lord, if a veil obstructs our meeting,
My master, if the veil between us thickens
Our nearby windows face no hindrance.
It is not because our hearts have lost their fondness
عجباًhow strange للصدودat the estrangement منكfrom you ومنيand from me
عجباً للصدود منك ومني
ولكلٍّand for each منَّاof us علىfor الوصلunion طاقَهْcapacity (also: a window)
ولكلٍّ منَّا على الوصل طاقَهْ
How strange this estrangement from you and from me,
How strange are your aversions and mine
Yet each of us has the capacity for union.
When each of us has ample strength for union
