على تركها مني السلام ورومها
[My eye] watered maidens on my behalf with streams of tears;
I shed tears copiously near her abode
Peace from me upon their Turks and Byzantines.
When she bid me farewell and left me forlorn

لقد شقيت من بعدها بكلومها
Companionable maidens, that our hearts might delight in their nearness—
If only her neighborhood would bless me
It has indeed suffered from their wounds since their departure.
For I have suffered in her absence, woe and scorn

And in love it suffered what the foes suffered—
In love I found what others found as well
Foes of Sayf al-Mulk’s bounties, who lived to their own misfortune.
May the glories of King Saif live on adorned

Sayf al-Mulk’s robes of honor captivated the beholder;
The ornaments of King Saif dazzle the onlooker
How wondrous, by God, the sight of their gardens and clouds!
His gardens and clouds belong to Allah alone

Al-Nasir, the sultan, saw your eminence revealed,
The Sultan al-Nasir saw you resplendent
Looking splendid in their gold embroidery and patterns.
So he approved your finery and poise

So he followed their blessings with dominion; and still flowed
His favors reached a kingly extent
Your hands’ flood of rain upon those seeking bounty.
While your hands poured blessings without cease

For so many naked, hungry people, O brother of bounty,
Oh brother of bounty, many a naked starving soul
Your hands bent tenderly over their livers and bodies.
Whose bodies and lives your kindness did appease
