روتnarrated عينيmy eye التسهدsleeplessness عنon the authority of قتادهQatadah (also a thorn tree)
روت عيني التسهد عن قتاده
ومنand from لونيmy complexion وسقميand my illness عنon the authority of جرادهJaradah (also a locust)
ومن لوني وسقمي عن جراده
My eye narrated sleeplessness on Qatadah's authority,
My eyes have wept away their kohl
And from my complexion and illness, on Jaradah's authority;
And my complexion and sickness have wasted away
ومنand from عذلreproach العذولthe reproacher عنon the authority of انتقاصdiminution
ومن عذل العذول عن انتقاص
ولكنbut منfrom هواكمlove for you عنon the authority of زيادهincrease
ولكن من هواكم عن زياده
And from the reproacher's reproach, on Diminution's authority,
Despite youth’s flirtations and coquetry
But from love for you, on Increase's authority.
But it is your love that has increased
حماهHama لحيكمfor your clan وثناand narrated to us ابنson of يحيىYahya
حماه لحيكم وثنا ابن يحيى
كلاboth السندينthe two transmission chains يروىis related عنon the authority of حمادهHamadah
كلا السندين يروى عن حماده
Hama is for your clan; and Ibn Yahya narrated to us—
May God protect your cheeks and the youth Ibn Yahya
Both chains of transmission are related from Hamadah.
Both lineages are recounted from Hamad
بليغeloquent معalongside وزارتهhis vizierate وقاضand a judge
بليغ مع وزارته وقاض
بأعناقupon the necks of الأنامhumankind لهin his favor شهادهtestimony
بأعناق الأنام له شهاده
Eloquent as well as a vizier, and a judge,
Eloquent despite his ministry and judgment
Upon humankind's necks rests testimony in his favor.
With the necks of people testifying for him
حمىdefended العلياthe heights بفضلwith excellence فاضليّFadili
حمى العليا بفضل فاضليّ
زكاflourished وذكاand grew brilliant وأوغلand advanced far فيin السيادهeminence
زكا وذكا وأوغل في السياده
He defended the heights with Fadili excellence,
He protected the noble with virtuous merit
Flourished, grew brilliant, and advanced far in eminence.
Pure, intelligent, and deeply entrenched in authority
يسابقraces كلevery يومday قاصديهthose seeking him
يسابق كل يوم قاصديه
بعاديwith the swift advance of خيرهhis bounty والخيرand goodness عادهa habit
بعادي خيره والخير عاده
Each day he races those who seek him,
He competes daily with those who visit him
With his swift-running bounty—goodness is his habit.
With an excess of his goodness, and goodness is his custom
دعوناwe called upon برهhis bounty شاماًSyria ومصراًand Egypt
دعونا بره شاماً ومصراً
فواصلso he continued فيin الإفاءةbestowal والإفادهand imparting benefit
فواصل في الإفاءة والإفاده
We called upon his bounty in Syria and Egypt;
Let us leave Syria and Egypt be
So he continued bestowing and benefiting.
He is unique in hospitality and benefaction
