قالَ لي الصّحب ما نباتك يا

قالَ لي الصّحب ما نباتك يا

منتسباً قلت لا تغمُّوني

My companions said to me, “What plant are you, O

My friends asked, "What is your status, O one who claims descent?"

you who claim descent?” I said, “Do not distress me.

I said, "Do not blame me,

بوعد محمود إذ أعيش به

بوعد محمود إذ أعيش به

علمتُ أني نبات كمُّون

علمتُ أني نبات كمُّون

Since I live on Mahmud’s promise,

With a promise made good, by which I live,

I have learned that I am a cumin plant.”

I knew that I am a concealed plant."
