دم يا علاء الدين في رفعة

رأيك فيما يقتضي أعلى

May you remain, O Ala al-Din, in eminence;

your judgment is loftier in what it calls for.

كتاب مولانا بإشفاقه

لا يختشي من سفر ثقلا

Our lord's scribe, through his kindly care,

fears no burden from travel.

يصطاد في المشتى مهماتكم

ونحن نصطاد من المقلى

He hunts for your important affairs in the winter quarters,

while we hunt from the frying pan.

لكنّ لي في الشام يا سيدي

قرائن من همّها حبلى

But in al-Sham, my lord, I have

companions—with worry for them I am pregnant.
