لا آخذَ الله غزال النقا
أيُّwhat عناًtorment أبقىspared علىupon العاشقthe lover
أيُّ عناً أبقى على العاشق
May God not take the gazelle of the dune to task.
I do not take God's gazelle of purity
What torment has spared the lover?
What weakness remains for the lover?
ماa reinforcing particle بينbetween حجلٍan anklet أوor وشاحٍa sash بداhe appeared
ما بين حجلٍ أو وشاحٍ بدا
وراحَand he went off بالصامتwith the silent والناطقand the speaking
وراحَ بالصامت والناطق
Between anklet and sash he appeared,
Nothing appears between parting or gathering
And carried off the silent and the speaking.
And so passes the silent and the outspoken
