بكيت على لقيا أناسٍ وددتهم

بكيت على لقيا أناسٍ وددتهم

وإن كان لا ضري يعدّ ولا نفعي

وإن كان لا ضري يعدّ ولا نفعي

I wept at meeting people I loved,

I wept for people I loved when we parted

Though neither my harm nor my benefit was reckoned.

Though they brought me no harm, nor did I bring them benefit

وإن قيل دون القلتين مكانه

وإن قيل دون القلتين مكانه

فما فيّ دون القلتين ولا دمعي

فما فيّ دون القلتين ولا دمعي

And if it is said that his place is below two qullahs,

And though it's said the one below the two hills has a place

Then my mouth is no less than two qullahs, nor are my tears.

Within me there is nothing below the two hills, nor are there tears
