أقولُI say لقلبيَto my heart العانيcaptive تصبَّرْbe patient
أقولُ لقلبيَ العاني تصبَّرْ
وإنand even if بَعُدَis far away المساعدُthe helper والحبيبand the beloved
وإن بَعُدَ المساعدُ والحبيب
I say to my captive heart: be patient,
I say to my troubled heart, have patience,
Even if the helper and the beloved are far away.
Though helpers fail me and friends flee,
عسىperhaps الهمّthe sorrow الذيwhich أمسيتُI have reached evening فيهin it
عسى الهمّ الذي أمسيتُ فيه
يكونwill be وراءهbehind it فرجٌrelief قريبnear
يكون وراءه فرجٌ قريب
Perhaps the sorrow in which I find myself this evening
Perhaps after this grief that I dwell in
Will be followed by relief close at hand.
Relief and ease may soon come to me.
