I marveled at my eye and the fair one's cheek;
I am amazed by my eyelids and the cheeks of the beautiful one
Each is wounded by the other.
Both have been wounded by the other
هذاthis one دَمُblood الراحِof wine بهin it واقفٌstanding still

In this one, the blood of wine stands still;
And there the tears flowing down
And in that one, the blood of tears flows.

O expected meeting with his nearness

قابلتناyou met us اليومَtoday بصبحٍwith a dawn صبيحlovely
O promise from him of a meeting soon,
You have met us today at dawn's first light
You greeted us today with a lovely dawn.
If it were proper for our eyelids to take
لوif جازَwere permissible أنْto تسلكَyou tread أجفانناour eyelids
إذاthen فرَشناwe spread out كلّevery جفنeyelid قريحwounded
If you were allowed to tread upon our eyelids,
The path of all tearful eyes
Then we would spread out every wounded eyelid.
But they are sick with distance
لكنهاbut they بالبعدِfrom separation معتلةٌailing
وأنتَand you لاdo not تسلكtread غيرَother than الصحيحwhat is sound
But they are ailing from separation,
And you take no path but the right one
And you tread only on what is sound.
