I made my love known among those far away and those near.

And I dubbed my reprover 'my pair of plough-oxen.'

He charged at me with reproach that did not suit me.

So I knew: his mind held nothing but two bulls.

My longing for my beloved's beauty grows if you reproach me,

As though I were a day of bounty from Ali.

A judge with inheritance and achievement as witnesses

To his excellence—how fine a judge and two upright witnesses!

O newcomer, and consummate giver, preceded by

Merit; their month, too, is two Rabīʿs—two springs.

As for today's clothing, if I did not greet his arrival,

How often, in his bounty, he has met me with its like!

If any man who resembles you has filled

My eye, then may my eye never be filled with my own pupil.
