عدمتI lost محمداًMuhammad أيامin the days when أرجوI hoped for
عدمت محمداً أيام أرجو
نداهhis bounty علىagainst الزمانِTime واسْتجيرand I seek refuge
نداه على الزمانِ واسْتجير
I lost Muhammad when I still hoped
I longed for Muhammad in days I hoped
for his bounty against Time and sought refuge in him.
to hear his call across time and sought refuge
فإنfor if تحجبare concealed محاسنهhis virtues بلحدٍin a grave
فإن تحجب محاسنه بلحدٍ
ففيthen in أفقِthe horizon of السماءِheaven لهاfor them مسيرa course
ففي أفقِ السماءِ لها مسير
For if his virtues are concealed within a grave,
If his virtues are veiled in a grave
they have their course along the horizon of heaven.
they proceed on the horizon of the sky
تقولsay لروحِهto his spirit الأفلاكُthe celestial spheres أهلاًwelcome
تقول لروحِه الأفلاكُ أهلاً
لناwe have زمنٌan age علىaround هذاthis ندورwe revolve
لنا زمنٌ على هذا ندور
The celestial spheres say to his spirit, “Welcome!
The orbits say to his soul welcome
Long have we revolved around this.”
