وضعتI laid down سلاحthe weapon الصبرpatience عنهagainst him فماso what لهis with him
وضعت سلاح الصبر عنه فما له
يقاتلhe fights بالألحاظwith glances منone who لاnot يقاتلهfights him
يقاتل بالألحاظ من لا يقاتله
I laid down patience’s weapon against him; why, then, does he
I have laid down the weapon of patience against him, yet he
fight with his glances one who does not fight him?
Fights with glances one who does not fight him,
وسالand flowed عذارa line of cheek-down حولaround خديهhis two cheeks جائرoppressive
وسال عذار حول خديه جائر
علىover مهجتيmy heart فليتقso let him fear اللهGod سائلهhe whose down flows
على مهجتي فليتق الله سائله
And a line of down flowed around his cheeks, tyrannizing
And sheds copious tears around his cheeks,
over my heart; let its wearer fear God.
Flooding my innermost heart - so may the questioner fear God!
