فلا بالمعالي لا ولا بالمعاين
I have forsaken exquisite speech as one who parts forsakes it;
So not in lofty matters—no—nor in what is beheld.

She lay in earth's depths, like pure gold,
So I knew for certain that earth is among the mines.

By God, I do not know whether for beauty of character
My eyelids stream, or for beautifully formed features.
