عادواthey returned ببطيخٍwith watermelons وقرعٍand gourds لهمfor themselves
عادوا ببطيخٍ وقرعٍ لهم
وعدتand I returned لاneither هذاthis ولاnor هذاthat
وعدت لا هذا ولا هذا
They returned with watermelons and gourds for themselves,
They returned with melon and pumpkin for them
and I returned with neither this nor that.
And I promised neither this nor that
قدindeed نبذواthey cast aside الإنصافَfairness فاعجبso marvel لمنat one who
قد نبذوا الإنصافَ فاعجب لمن
غداbecame بشهرِin the month of الصومfasting نبَّاذاa habitual discarder; also a nabīdh-maker
غدا بشهرِ الصوم نبَّاذا
They have cast fairness aside—so marvel at one who
They have abandoned fairness, it is surprising for whom
became a habitual discarder in the month of fasting.
