وردت على الباب الجماليّ قاصداً

وردت على الباب الجماليّ قاصداً

فجادَ ولاقى مقصدي بأياد

فجادَ ولاقى مقصدي بأياد

I came to al-Jamālī's gate with a purpose;

He gave generously and met my purpose with favors.

ولي فرسٌ قد بات ضيفاً لطرفه

ولي فرسٌ قد بات ضيفاً لطرفه

فبات كلانا وهوَ بيتُ جواد

فبات كلانا وهوَ بيتُ جواد

And I had a horse that spent the night as his steed's guest;

So we both stayed the night—and it was a generous host's house.
