قلت إذ جاءني ندى ناظر الثغ
رcompletion of الثغر, 'the frontier' علىdespite البعدthe distance حبَّذاhow welcome الغيثthe rain يذكرis spoken of
ر على البعد حبَّذا الغيث يذكر
I said, when the bounty of the frontier's overseer reached me
from afar: how welcome the rain that is spoken of!
فخرُpride دينof the faith الإلهof God أخبرنيtold me عنabout
فخرُ دين الإله أخبرني عن
هhim سراجSiraj (literally, 'lamp') بهthrough him المحامدpraiseworthy deeds تزهرbloom
ه سراج به المحامد تزهر
Fakhr Din al-Ilah—I was told about
him by Siraj, through whom praiseworthy deeds bloom.
رَبّLord عمرهْprolong his life فيamong رواةnarrators المعاليnoble deeds
رَبّ عمرهْ في رواة المعالي
فهوfor he فيهمamong them نعمhow excellent السراجُthe lamp المعمَّرlong-lived
فهو فيهم نعم السراجُ المعمَّر
Lord, prolong his life among the narrators of noble deeds,
for among them he is an excellent, long-lived lamp.
