ألا يا وزير الملوك البليغ
وياand O منyou who لهto whom belongs قلمthe pen الصَّنعتينof the two arts
ويا من له قلم الصَّنعتين
O eloquent minister of kings,
And you who wield the pen of both arts,
أحاشيكَI hold you above تَنْسىforgetting وصولthe arrival المحالthe man referred for payment
أحاشيكَ تَنْسى وصول المحال
فيغدوand so he becomes محلاًّlodged (the precise wordplay is uncertain) علىin الصيغتينboth forms of the word
فيغدو محلاًّ على الصيغتين
Far be it from you to forget the arrival of the man referred to you,
And so leave him “lodged”—in both forms of the word.
