لما من الدهر سير الأنزع البطل
Emir Ali, in his stewardship, has followed
Prince Ali walked in his protection
the bald-fronted hero’s course in facing what time brings.
When the fate of time moved the heroic struggler
فنحنthus we فيin الفضلexcellence ماضيهits past وحاضرهand its present
فنحن في الفضل ماضيه وحاضره
نرويwe recount الثناthe praise عنabout أميرcommander of المؤمنينthe faithful عليAli
نروي الثنا عن أمير المؤمنين علي
Thus we, concerning excellence both past and present,
So we in merit, his past and present
recount the praise of Ali, Commander of the Faithful.
