إلى المجدِ غادٍ بالعطا المتواتر
Do you bear a poem of praise each day,
Do you bear praise every day
Setting forth toward glory with gifts in steady succession?
Marching with continuous generosity towards glory?
فياso, oh ليتwould that شعرِيmy knowledge والمطامِعwhile ambitions جمَّةٌare many
فيا ليت شعرِي والمطامِع جمَّةٌ
إلىuntil مَwhen يراكsees you المجدglory فيin زيِّthe garb of شاعرa poet
إلى مَ يراك المجد في زيِّ شاعر
Oh, would that I knew, while ambitions are many:
Oh, my poetry and ambitions gather
How long will glory see you in a poet’s garb?
To whom does glory see you in the guise of a poet?
