  1. فديناك يا ابن الواسطيّ ممجداً

    بأقلامه أو جائداً بمكارمه

    May we be your ransom, O son of al-Wāsiṭī, a man exalted

    by his pens, or lavish with his noble gifts.

  2. فخاتم أهل الجود في بطن كفّه

    وياقوت أهل الخط في فصّ خاتمه

    For the seal of the generous lies in the hollow of his palm,

    and Yāqūt, the calligraphers’ ruby, in the bezel of his ring.
