رعى الله بحراً فوق أرجا بحيرةٍ
تكادit almost تحاكيmirrors بسطthe outstretching of يمناهhis right hand بالندىwith bounty
تكاد تحاكي بسط يمناه بالندى
May God preserve a sea above the reaches of a lake—
May God preserve a sea upon the shores of a lake,
a lake that nearly mirrors his right hand, outspread with bounty.
Which almost mirrors his right hand outstretched in bounty.
وتبدوand it appears إذاwhen هبَّblows النسيمthe breeze كمبردlike a file
وتبدو إذا هبَّ النسيم كمبرد
فلاso no غرْوَwonder أنthat تجليit polishes away عنfrom المهجthe souls الصداthe rust
فلا غرْوَ أن تجلي عن المهج الصدا
And when the breeze blows, it looks like a file;
And when the breeze blows, it looks like a file;
no wonder, then, that it scours the rust from souls.
So no wonder it polishes rust away from souls.
