Many a one with a scar upon the
cheek, and one with a musk-scented mole,
ملكاthe two possessed قلبيَmy heart فيin الحبّlove
ملكا قلبيَ في الحبّ
وكانand was الشرطthe scar; also, the condition أملكmore commanding
وكان الشرط أملك
Both possessed my heart in love,
Yet the scar held greater sway.
