بقيت لحمدٍ مثل فضلك واف

وكافاك عنَّا الله خير مكاف

I have remained praising you, as is your right

May God reward you well on our behalf

ولا زلتَ مسروراً بنشرِ محامدٍ

وذخر أجورٍ واتصالِ عواف

You continue being happy spreading praise

And hoarding rewards and hosting guests

ومجدٌ على الأنصار شفَّ سناؤه

وعلم لأدواء البصائر شاف

Glory upon the supporters whose health recovered

And a lesson for insights' remedies to heal

وبرّ إذا خانَ الزمان موكلٌ

براءٍ وفاءٍ للأنام وقَّافِ

Loyalty, when times betray the entrusted

Innocence, faithfulness to people, and an ally

ومنح وصفح ذاك معفٍ لمخطئٍ

وذاك صريح المكرمات لعافِ

Who forgives and pardons, that forgiving one

And that frank bestower to the wretched

ولفظٌ هو العذبُ الطهور وطالما

أدارَ على الأفهام صرف سلاف

A pure, sweet utterance that has always

Spun the minds in cycles of smoothness

لك الله بحراً إن خبا البحر دُرّهُ

فأحسن منه دُرّ بحرك طافي

If the sea hides its pearls, God has an ocean

Better than it, an encompassing sea of pearls

وندباً أطارت طائر المدح واجباً

قوادِم من نعمائه وخواف

The bird of praise necessarily flew invited

By gifts of his bounties and intimates

فما رأيه عن قاصديه بغافلٍ

وما طرفه عن وافديه بغاف

His sight never oblivious of visitors

Nor his glance unaware of newcomers

وتدبير ملكٍ مع تورّع زاهدٍ

إلى وثب عزمٍ مع سكون عفاف

A king's governance with an ascetic's piety

And vigor's leap with composure's calm

أخا العلم في عقلٍ ونقلٍ حوى المدى

وِفاق على الماضي بغير خلاف

The brother of knowledge in mind and narration

Encompassed the horizon without discord

وذا المجد في دنيا وأخرى فيا له

مضافاً إليه واصلاً بمضاف

And this glory in life and the next - behold

Annexed to him, predicated on an annex

أتى جودك المروي صداي ولم أسل

ولا طرق السمع الكريم نشافٍ

Your flowing generosity came to me though I did not ask

Nor frequented the generous hearing persistently

ودقَّ عليَّ البابَ رزقٌ ولم أسر

أدقّ بكعبي متعباً بطوافي

Livelihood knocked on my door though I did not travel

Knocking with my tired feet circling

وقابلتها غرّ الوجوه كثيرة

جرت بحروفٍ قد صرَعنَ حرافي

And I met sullen faces in plenty

Flowing with letters that dazzled my wit

ثقالاً بمنديلِي ألذّ بثقلها

وأخطر من بعد الحفا بخفاف

Sweetly burdened by my handkerchief's weight

More perilous after protection's veil

وأسحب والأولاد فضل ملابسٍ

نصافي بها الأيام حين نصافي

I trail it and the children, clothes' excess

Halves with it the days when we halve

ونشكر والأعضاء ألسنة ندى

يديك وندعو والزمان مواف

We thank as the organs are tongues of dew

Of your hand, and we pray as time harmonizes

دعاً صالحٌ منَّا ومدحٌ مؤيدٌ

وحقّك لا في ذا بعثت ولا في

A good prayer from us and buttressed praise

And your right is not in that which you were sent for

رعا الله أيام الإمام محمدٍ

فكم نعمٍ رُدَّت إليَّ شراف

May God protect the days of Imam Muhammed

For so many blessings were returned glorious

ولو سمته ردّ الشباب لردّه

عليَّ وقد مرَّت عليَّ سوافي

If naming him would restore my youth, he would

Return it to me though ranks have marched by

ألم ترَ أني قد حرمت بمدحِه

إلى غزل للشائبين مناف

Do you not see that praising him has deprived me

To romance for the greying amidst the youth

فآهاً لعلاَّت الروادف برَّحت

بأكباد قومٍ مستنين عجاف

Alas the easy riding litters traveled on

With the livers of outlasted patient folk

وآهاً على عصر الشباب الذي مضى

وأوْدَى فليت الحادثاتِ كفافي

Alas upon the age of youth that passed

And perished, if only events would suffice

فراشي كما قيل الحسان نواعماً

لديه ومسحوبُ الشعور لحافي

My bed as they said, soft temptresses

At hand and trailing plaited hair's tresses

زمان لقاً أستغفر الله ليته

تقضَّى ولم أنعم زمانَ تجافي

A time of meeting - I seek God's pardon, if only

It would end and I'd not enjoy a arid time

فيا آمريّ اليوم بالغيّ أمسكا

فقد مرَّ من تلك الغواية كاف

O he who today commands sensuality, refrain

For that misguidance has passed, enough

ويا سابق النعمى لراجيه لا تزل

تُلافي حياة المرء عند تَلافي

O bestower of bounty to its seeker, you never

Leave off conciliating the life of man as he tarries

فبطنيَ شبعانٌ وظهري كأنه

لسانيَ ما بين البريَّة داف

My belly is full and my back as if it were

My tongue amidst the wild desert hot
