ذكرى الغمام وذكرى النيل في الجود

ويا غمامُ تفضّل غير مطرود
So I said, “O Nile, pack up—not driven away;
So I said: O Nile, carry on steadily flowing
and, O cloud, kindly depart—not expelled.”
And O clouds, kindly keep raining down

This son of Isaac has saved us with his comfort
his red pens amid our black fortunes.
His red pens amidst our black tribulations

so, O its little tamarisks, blessed wood are you!
O their branches, blessed be your wood
