تغير بدر الدِّين بعد مودَّةٍ

تغير بدر الدِّين بعد مودَّةٍ

وحالت به الأيام عن ذلك الوفا

وحالت به الأيام عن ذلك الوفا

Badr al-Din changed after showing affection,

The affection of Badr al-Din has changed

And the days turned him away from that fidelity.

And the days have turned him from that loyalty

ودلَّ على أن الوداد مكلف

ودلَّ على أن الوداد مكلف

ولا عجبٌ للبدرِ أن يتكلَّفا

ولا عجبٌ للبدرِ أن يتكلَّفا

And he showed that affection was forced;

And it shows that affection is pretense

And no wonder the full moon should be blemished.

It is no wonder that the full moon pretends
