وحقكم لا مرَّ بي الصبر عنكُم

By your honor, may patience apart from you never visit me,

I swear by your right, patience has not passed me by because of you

Even were I to taste estrangement more bitter than aloes.

Even if I tasted estrangement more bitter than patience

ولا أشتكيكم ما حييت وإنما

ولا أشتكيكم ما حييت وإنما

إلى فضلكم أشكو إذا مسَّني ضرِّي

إلى فضلكم أشكو إذا مسَّني ضرِّي

Nor will I complain of you as long as I live; rather,

I do not complain of you as long as I live, rather

To your generosity alone I complain when my affliction touches me.

I complain to your kindness when my misfortune afflicts me

على حبِّكم أنفقت عمري جاهداً

على حبِّكم أنفقت عمري جاهداً

فإن رُمت سلواناً فيا ضيعة العمر

فإن رُمت سلواناً فيا ضيعة العمر

In devotion to you I have spent my life, striving;

I have spent my life striving in love for you

So if I seek to forget, alas for a lifetime wasted!

So if you wish to turn away, oh what a waste of life!

أمين التقى يكفي من الشكر أنه

أمين التقى يكفي من الشكر أنه

يقصر عمَّا أنت مانحه شكري

يقصر عمَّا أنت مانحه شكري

Amin al-Tuqa, it is thanks enough that

My thanks fall short of what you bestow.

أمين التقى قلبي أمينٌ على الوَلا

إن ارْتبْتُمو فاسْتشهدوه على أمري

Amin al-Tuqa, my heart is a faithful guardian of loyalty;

Ameen Al-Taqi, my heart is loyal to devotion

If you doubt, call it to bear witness to my case.

فلولاك بادت عند بيروت حالتي

وسوفت في أمرِ الموارث والحشر

For without you, my fortunes would have perished in Beirut,

For if not for you, my state would have perished in Beirut

And I would have been put off over inheritances and escheat.

And I would have slipped in the matter of inheritance and reckoning

فيا من له في السرّ والعلم رتبةٌ

فيا من له في السرّ والعلم رتبةٌ

يجازيك عنِّي عالم السرّ والجهر

يجازيك عنِّي عالم السرّ والجهر

O you who hold a rank in confidential affairs and learning,

So oh you who has an exalted place in secret and knowledge

May the Knower of the secret and the open reward you on my behalf.
