نوال يداه للآمالِ محيا
A vizier journeys by night under the most auspicious star;
The bounty of his hands gives life to hopes.
فياso, O ليتَif only البرامكthe Barmakids عاينوهsaw him
فيا ليتَ البرامك عاينوه
وأنعمهand his blessings تعمُّencompass الخلقcreation سقياwatering
وأنعمه تعمُّ الخلق سقيا
Oh, if only the Barmakids had seen him,
While his blessings water all creation:
فينضبthen would run dry جعفرJa'far ويعوزand would be in want فضلFadl
فينضب جعفر ويعوز فضل
ويبلىand would decay خالدKhalid ويموتand would die يحيىYahya
ويبلى خالد ويموت يحيى
Then Ja'far would run dry, and Fadl be in want,
And Khalid would decay, and Yahya die.
