نأت عن محبِّيه أعطافه

نأت عن محبِّيه أعطافه

وأمسوا إلى الطيف يستطلعون

His graceful form drew away from those who loved him,

His form has drawn far from those who love him,

And they spent the evening watching for his dream-phantom.

And at evening they watched for his dream-phantom.

فهاهمُ قيامٌ لفرط الأسى

فهاهمُ قيامٌ لفرط الأسى

قليلاً من الليلِ ما يهجعون

قليلاً من الليلِ ما يهجعون

So there they stand, stricken by the extremity of grief,

So here they stand, so intense is their grief;

Only a few hours of the night do they slumber.

Little of the night do they sleep.
