فعندِي من فقد الصّبا شاغل كافي
My two friends, stop troubling me with love;
My friend, stop distracting me with love,
For the loss of youth is concern enough for me.
For missing my youth distracts me enough.

فياso, oh عجباًwhat a wonder للشيبِat gray hair منsuch كدرٍmurk صافيclear
فيا عجباً للشيبِ من كدرٍ صافي
My gray hair’s color grew clear, then clouded my life;
My hair turned gray, then my life grew turbulent,
So how strange is gray hair—such clear murk!
How strange that clear gray hair brings turmoil.
ومرخىand hanging loose علىupon الأكتافthe shoulders يضحكmakes laugh منwhoever يرىsees
ومرخى على الأكتاف يضحك من يرى

فأوَّاه من شيب يقطِّع أكتافي
And, hanging loose upon the shoulders, it makes whoever sees it laugh;
It flows down my shoulders, laughing at those who see,
So, alas for gray hair that tears my shoulders apart!
Alas! Gray hair that weighs down my shoulders.
