يا خليلاً جعلتهُ العينَ والقل
بcompletion of 'heart' وأصفَيتهand I confided to him سرائرَinnermost secrets حبِّيmy love
ب وأصفَيته سرائرَ حبِّي
O friend whom I made my eye and heart,
and to whom I confided the innermost secrets of my love,
لاno عجيبٌwonder إذاif جلبتyou brought ليَto me الضharm (continued next line)
لا عجيبٌ إذا جلبت ليَ الض
رَّcompletion of 'harm' فهذيfor such are عاداتُthe ways عينيmy eye وقلبيand my heart
رَّ فهذي عاداتُ عيني وقلبي
no wonder if you bring me harm:
for such are the ways of my eye and heart.
