A guardian has come to us, bearing abundance;

under his justice, every frightened soul finds safety.

فدمشق اليوم والدنيا معاً

في فنونٍ للتهاني وصنوف

في فنونٍ للتهاني وصنوف

So Damascus today—and all the world as one—

are filled with manifold forms and kinds of congratulation:

جنَّة في ظلّ سيف قادم

جنَّة في ظلّ سيف قادم

وكذا الجنَّات في ظلِّ السيوف

وكذا الجنَّات في ظلِّ السيوف

a garden beneath the shadow of an advancing sword;

and so are gardens beneath the shadows of swords.
