وأصهار سوءٍ ذو الدراسة بينهم

وأصهار سوءٍ ذو الدراسة بينهم

وذو الفقر مذمومٌ فإياك عنهمُ

وذو الفقر مذمومٌ فإياك عنهمُ

And wicked in-laws: the learned man among them

And in-laws of ill-repute, the learned among them,

and the poor man are reviled, so keep away from them.

And the poor man is blamed, so beware of them.

فإن كنت تشكو الفقر فهي مصيبةٌ

فإن كنت تشكو الفقر فهي مصيبةٌ

وإن كنت تدري فالمصيبة أعظمُ

وإن كنت تدري فالمصيبة أعظمُ

For if you complain of poverty, it is a calamity;

If you complain of poverty, it is a misfortune,

and if you know, the calamity is greater.

And if you know, the misfortune is greater.
