And I thought there would be righteousness in my old age,
I thought in my old age I had attained righteousness
To atone for the lapse of my youth.
To atone for the missteps of my early years,

But when I grew old, I grew still more impure;
But as I grew older, I only became more unclean,
So say what you will of the great ill-starred wretch.
Say what you will of the profoundly unlucky elder.
