ولي رقيبٌ إذا ما الحبّ واصلني

ولي رقيبٌ إذا ما الحبّ واصلني

قرينه قلت ليت الحبّ لم يصل

And I have a watcher: whenever the beloved joins me,

I have a companion when love visits me

With the watcher as his companion, I say, 'Would that the beloved had not come!'

Its mate, I wish that love had not called

يقولُ تنقيل مرآه وسرعته

سبحانَ من خلقَ الإنسان من عجل

The shifting of his gaze and its swiftness say:

It says, hasten to move its mirror

'Glory be to Him who created man out of haste!'
