إذا زحم الشيب الشباب بمفرقي
And I had thought love would leave my heart
Once I thought that love would leave my heart
when gray hair jostled youth at the parting of my hair.
When gray hairs crowded out the black in my hair
فلماbut when بداappeared معalongside أسودthe black of الشعرthe hair أبيضٌwhite
فلما بدا مع أسود الشعر أبيضٌ

أتى العشق يغزوني على ألف أبلق
But when white appeared beside the black of my hair,
But with the black some white has now appeared
love came to raid me on a thousand piebald steeds.
And love still comes to conquer me, past hope or dread
