ويُمسيand spends the evening بليلِin the night of الشعرِthe hair وهوَwhile it يعاتبهreproaches it
ويُمسي بليلِ الشعرِ وهوَ يعاتبه
And a supple youth—his waist complains of his rump’s tyranny,
The camel complains of the burden upon its back,
and spends the evening in the night of his hair, reproaching it:
And reproaches the long night with verses of woe,
يشَّبعis sated ذاthis one لحماًwith flesh وذاwhile that one باتَspent the night جائِعاًhungry
يشَّبع ذا لحماً وذا باتَ جائِعاً
وشبعand being sated الفتىthe youth لؤمٌbaseness إذاwhen جاعَgoes hungry صاحبهhis companion
وشبع الفتى لؤمٌ إذا جاعَ صاحبه
This one is sated with flesh, while that one has spent the night hungry;
One is stuffed to the full while another sleeps hungry,
and it is ignoble for a youth to be sated when his companion goes hungry.
When the youth is replete it is base if his friend goes unfed.
