وذي عذلٍ لمَّا رآنيَ عاشقاً

وذي عذلٍ لمَّا رآنيَ عاشقاً

كواعبَ غزلانٍ تدلّ وتطرِب

كواعبَ غزلانٍ تدلّ وتطرِب

And a faultfinder, when he saw me in love

When the one I desire saw me a lover,

with full-breasted gazelles, coquettish and enchanting,

Like the gazelles playing and frolicking,

لحاني فأجرَيت المدامعَ أنهراً

لحاني فأجرَيت المدامعَ أنهراً

فقلتُ له دعهم يخوضوا ويلعبوا

فقلتُ له دعهم يخوضوا ويلعبوا

reproached me, so I made my tears flow in rivers;

He teased me and I let my tears flow like rivers,

so I said to him, "Leave them to idle talk and play."

So I said to him, “Let them play and have fun.”
