After the long passage of days, I have come to this:

My heart is in my body's place in al-Sham.

If I die of grief, then my sons have already

Died in their al-Sham of destitution.

O two ministers, who are indeed who they are,

Do not pity me; pity my orphans.

Who will help me carry them upon my eye? For I have no

Means to carry them upon my feet.

So your mending of my heart would be their mending,

For in every sense they are my bones.

O refuge for widows and sustainer of or-

phans, may you remain the refuge of Islam.

I have sworn: were it not for your standing and your bounty,

I would be left with nothing behind me or before me.
