  1. يقول الذي قد درَى غربَتي

    وعسري وجودُكَ حصلته

    He says—he who knows my exile

    And my hardship, and that I obtained your bounty—

  2. قبضت بأنعامهِ البندقي

    فقلتُ نعم ثمَّ فصَّلته

    “Did you receive the Venetian ducat through his largesse?”

    I said, “Yes; then I broke it up.”
