خذ من عبيدك مقتضى نيَّاتها
فيin الحمدِpraise واعْذرand pardon مقتضىthe import of أقوالهاtheir words
في الحمدِ واعْذر مقتضى أقوالها
Accept from your servants what their intentions imply
Judge your servants by their intentions
in praise, and pardon what their words express.
In praise, and pardon the extent of their words,
قسماًI swear لوif اسْتطاعتwere able إليكto you جسومهمtheir bodies
قسماً لو اسْتطاعت إليك جسومهم
بعثتwould send دروجscrolls المدحpraise منfrom أوصالهاtheir limbs
بعثت دروج المدح من أوصالها
I swear, were their bodies able, to you
By God, if their bodies could reach you,
they would send scrolls of praise fashioned from their limbs.
Praises would pour from their limbs.
