أمولايَO my lord شكراًthanks لليراعِto the reed pen الذيthat أرَىshowed
أمولايَ شكراً لليراعِ الذي أرَى
بياضَthe whiteness العطاياthe gifts فيin سوادِthe blackness المطالبthe petitions
بياضَ العطايا في سوادِ المطالب
O my lord, thanks to the reed pen, through which I see
O my lord, thanks to the reed pen that showed
the white radiance of gifts amid the black ink of petitions.
The whiteness of gifts in the blackness of petitions.
لقدindeed قمتَyou have fulfilled بالمسنونِwith what is recommended والفرضِand the obligatory duty فيin الندىgenerosity
لقد قمتَ بالمسنونِ والفرضِ في الندى
تضيّعyou squander هذاthis المالthe wealth فيon غيرِother than واجبan obligation
تضيّع هذا المال في غيرِ واجب
In generosity, you have fulfilled both the Sunnah and the obligatory duty;
You have indeed fulfilled the recommended and obligatory duties in generosity;
you squander this wealth where no duty binds you.
You squander this wealth on what is not obligatory.
