رعى الله أوقاتاً تقضَّت بصاحبٍ
موازينmeasures لفظيmy words فيin الوَلاءdevotion بحفظهin his keeping
موازين لفظي في الوَلاء بحفظه
May God watch over times that passed with a friend,
In whose keeping lie the measures of my words of devotion.
إذاwhen لمnot تُدرْbe passed around كاسa cup المدامةwine بينناbetween us
إذا لم تُدرْ كاس المدامة بيننا
أديرتwere passed around كؤوسcups بينbetween لفظيmy words ولفظهand his words
أديرت كؤوس بين لفظي ولفظه
When no cup of wine was passed around between us,
Cups were passed around between my words and his.
