You recalled my fasting in two years brought together

in my lot, quenching, severance, and estrangement.

for my two states: one enjoying union, the other forsaken.

قد فطراني فما في ذا وذا كبد

شتَّان ما بين تفطيرٍ وتفطير

شتَّان ما بين تفطيرٍ وتفطير

The two have split me open—in this one and that, no liver remains.

Both broke me; no liver remained in either case.

What a gulf between my being split apart and a breaking of the fast!

How far apart are breaking a fast and cleaving a liver!
