مبقل الوجهِ أدَارَ الطَّلا

فقالَ لي في حبِّها عاتبي

فقالَ لي في حبِّها عاتبي

A youth with down sprouting on his face passed the wine around.

Turning his face, he reproached me for drinking red wine,

Then my reprover said to me about my love for it:

"Do not be distracted by the red drink," he said.

عن أحمرِ المشروب ما تلتهي

عن أحمرِ المشروب ما تلتهي

قلت ولا عن أخضر الشارب

قلت ولا عن أخضر الشارب

“You do not turn away from the red drink.”

I replied, "Nor do I neglect the green drinker."

I said, “Nor from the green mustache.”
