A bough sways, clad in the leaves of fine robes;
A branch with leaves of beauty comes to mind
And nothing but love for him crosses my soul.
Yet nothing but your love occupies my heart

He is watered with the water of his youth and my tears;
Watered by the nectar of your youth and my tears
So he bears fruit through his beauty and my heart's sorrow.
It bears fruit in your beauty and my aching heart

The world's great scholar and the mainstay of its realm:
Adornment of this world, its crown and glory
So secrets are guarded and virtues proclaimed.
Secrets are kept, virtues broadcast

He has no fault save bounty that enslaves
No flaws but drops of dew enslaved
The bondservant of praise—and that he is indeed a liberator.
Soft praise though you're a free man

My customary gift from his bounty has been held back
Your mist would linger constantly with me
From me—and postponing bounty is unwelcome.
But lingering mist does nothing to change things

Sorrows kept coming and maybe
Relief for them is to be hoped for from him—and more.
Relief will come, even increase

Branches of longing - my heart takes flight
Toward you, and my love is complete and abundant.
To you, filled with love and passion

I was described with the attributes of poetry, to my misfortune;
I'm described with elegy epithets in my misery
So no wonder if the circles of misfortune turn against me.
No wonder circles keep turning against me

With his pen and sword - commanding, forbidding
