I surpassed al-Saʿīd and his master
with the verse and prose of them both.
وكاناand they both were عتيقيtwo freedmen of فخارٍglory حويتI possessed
وكانا عتيقي فخارٍ حويت
فكنتso I was الأحقّthe most entitled بإرثيهماto their two inheritances
فكنت الأحقّ بإرثيهما
Both were freedmen of a glory I possessed,
so I was most entitled to their two inheritances.
