ألاAh! ليتif only شعريmy knowledge هلwhether أفوزI win بحافظٍwith a keeper
ألا ليت شعري هل أفوز بحافظٍ
ليَfor me الودaffection منfrom هذاthis البريدthe messenger المرددsent to and fro
ليَ الود من هذا البريد المردد
Ah, would that I knew: shall I win a keeper
Would that my poetry had won for me a friend,
of affection for me from this messenger sent to and fro,
One who would exchange affectionate letters,
فيرفعand so he conveys أخبارَtidings السلامِgreetings لمالكٍto Malik
فيرفع أخبارَ السلامِ لمالكٍ
ويسمعنيand lets me hear فيin الردthe reply مسندMusnad (hadith collection) أحمدAhmad
ويسمعني في الرد مسند أحمد
who conveys tidings of greetings to Malik,
Who could convey my greetings of peace,
and lets me hear Ahmad's Musnad in reply?
And let me hear in reply the transmitted words of Ahmad
